Why Microsoft Dynamics 365 is overtaking Salesforce

The debate is always raging on between Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Salesforce over who holds the better CRM product. Frankly, unbiased advice is hard to come by, and I admit to having a little myself too. If you attended my webinar on May 29, you might have seen some of the core features that have tipped the scales in favour of Microsoft Dynamics 365 product. If you missed it, here’s your chance to get the Coles Notes. We’ll discuss the big 3 differentiators; integration, analytics, Microsoft’s vision.

Before we get into what’s different, let’s start with what is arguably the same between both products. They both offer your standard tools for maintaining a customer database, managing your leads and opportunities, and generating your sales forecasts and other reports. Both offer activity tracking, integration with Outlook, and mobile applications for Android and iOS. For a sales team, what else do you need? The answer, a lot!

Integration

Microsoft’s business solution Dynamic 365, falls under the Office 365 umbrella. Through this setup, they have enabled their customers to take advantage of all of their tools with seamless connectivity. Sales teams can connect to prospects through LinkedIn embedded in Microsoft Dynamics 365 CE (Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement, Microsoft’s rebranding of CRM), nurture their relationships through the connected tool. Then reps can generate a quote in Microsoft Dynamics 365 CE, pulling items from Business Central (ERP), and output the information into a dynamic Word template and “convert to PDF and email” using Outlook and track it right back into Dynamics 365 against my account, contact, and open opportunity.

I can then, from Outlook, create my follow up activities, which synchronize with CE, and store my files directly in CE, OneDrive, SharePoint or Teams. It doesn’t stop there. When the quote is approved I can submit my Order to Business Central (BC), view my Order status through Power BI dashboards and then have my Invoice synchronize right back into CE. Hopefully, you followed that whole chain of actions.

If not I’ll summarize just a few of the integrations in point form:

  • LinkedIn integrates directly with CE and Outlook.
  • Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement (CRM) integrates with Business Central (ERP)
    • Your accounts, contacts, quotes, orders, and invoices all integrate.
  • Dynamics 365 is fully integrated with your Office suite of products.
    • Pull data out of CE directly into Word and Excel
    • View and interact with your CE data directly out of Outlook
  • Dynamics 365 CE and BC integrate with Power BI
    • This allows you to compare data sets to create powerful reports, as well as expose data that was once only available in 1 system into the other.
    • Real life example: View your order backlog, shipping performance, item history, outstanding invoices, and more in your Customer Engagement system. This has been a massive productivity boost for Vox ISMs SMB customers.
  • Dynamics 365 integrates with all of Microsoft’s document management tools including OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams.

Microsoft Dynamics 365

Still reading? Aren’t Coles Notes usually shorter than this? Probably.

Analytics

Everyone wants big data, and now the challenge is what to do with it? Microsoft’s Power BI and AI-powered tools are offering up all the analytics organizations could ask for. Power BI can pull data from multiple sources including OData, SQL services, excel files and more. Now not only can you analyze all of your data, but AI will analyze it for you and suggest BI cubes to add to your reports. The analytics don’t stop there. Embedded in Dynamics 365 CE is the Relationship Assistant, which analyzes your interactions, your collected data, your emails, and more, and provides actionable insights for its users. It is like having your personal robot assistant.

Microsoft’s vision

Over $12billion spent each year in R&D and even more if you include acquisitions like LinkedIn (~$26billion purchase). Microsoft is committed to growing its cloud-based products and services and mobile capabilities. Their vision and execution have elevated Microsoft to their $1trillion status. Companies planning for the future can bet on Microsoft to get them there.

BMAC 2019 Exhibitors

This year’s BMAC was the biggest we have had thus far, with over 200 manufacturing professionals in attendance to advocate the latest Microsoft technology.

The focus of BMAC 2019 was Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is an all-in-one business management solution, which helps manufacturers to connect their business and make smarter decisions. With the help of the modern integrated software from Microsoft, manufacturers can now engage with the customers throughout the entire product life cycle (from quote to cash).  Digitization is empowering modern Canadian manufacturing companies by facilitating a customer-centric approach while optimizing operations.

The Apps works with the Microsoft products companies are already using and gives them tailored solutions for their business.

After the exhibitors’ presentations, the booth area was opened for networking. Attendees were curious to know more about the Apps from Microsoft for Manufacturing and how they can implement these new solutions in their business.

VOX ISM would like to thank all who participated in the Best Manufacturing Apps Conference (BMAC) 2019. By all accounts, it was a successful event.

A big thank you to our sponsors Microsoft and SherWeb. Thanks to all our exhibitors for outstanding presentations.

Last but not least, the attendees. Thank you all for coming to Microsoft Canada HQ and participating in BMAC 2019.

cloud telephony solutions from microsoft

Know Everything About Cloud Telephony Solutions by Microsoft

Cloud Telephony is the communications technology where the service provider’s premises hosts all communication devices and applications. Business interested in using these services does not need to install any software or buy any hardware to get these services. The service can be an IVR, call center setup, call recording etc. You can start these services on a traditional landline phone, mobile or a computer system, i.e. desktop, laptop or tablet.

cloud telephony solutions from microsoft

VOX ISM and SherWeb are incredibly excited to present to BMAC attendees the latest in cloud telephony solutions. Although Unified Communications as a service is a buzz word these days, integration between SherWeb hosted PBX and Office 365 Teams, and Skype clients are genuinely revolutionary.

For years, companies looking for integration between multiple platforms were forced to purchase from multiple vendors, each bringing their unique expertise to one specific product.

This is a messy approach, having to deal with multiple bills, Account Managers, integrations etc.

SherWeb and VOX ISM solution to PBX is revolutionary in the sense that we come to the table with expertise on both sides of the coin; PBX and Office 365.

Sherweb and VOX ISM can assess, scope, quote, onboard and most importantly support any Cloud Telephone solution paired with any Office 365 need.

The end result for BMAC attendees is that you can use the apps you use daily (Outlook, Dynamics, Teams and Skype) to launch Voice calls using an enterprise-grade Cloud Platform that is powered by SherWeb and VOX ISM.

To get more updates on Microsoft’s cloud telephony solutions, join us May 16 from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM at Microsoft Canada for the Best Manufacturing App Seminar (BMAC).

Migrate from Dynamics GP to Business Central in few hours…not months! We can make it happen.

There have been many sessions at the Microsoft Directions North America 2019 Conference covering the migration from Dynamics GP to Business Central. VOX ISM has already helped many our customers through this migration and we wanted to share with you some of the reasons why you should consider migrating and to tell you about the great data migration tools that make it easy and reduce the data migration down from hundreds of hours to a few!

Dynamics GP to Business Central

When Should You Migrate from Dynamics GP to Business Central

Many companies today are trying to determine when they should migrate from Dynamics GP to Business Central. Depending on your decision to upgrade to either Business Central online or on-premises, different scenarios are supported.

The decision to move from one ERP solution to another is obviously an important one and not taken lightly.  However, there are times when you either can benefit from a new solution or you just don’t feel as though your current solution is a fit any longer.

Mobility

One issue that can affect that decision in the Microsoft Dynamics world is mobility.  Dynamics 365 Business Central is a completely mobile enabled and browser enabled the solution. Meaning it will work on any device, anytime, anywhere.  This is in stark contrast to Dynamics GP which won’t really work on any mobile device and doesn’t really work in a browser either.  So if your sales team or maybe a field service team needs access to your ERP solution Dynamics GP may no longer be a fit.

Reporting

Another indication that it may be time to consider whether you should migrate from Dynamics GP to Business Central is improved reporting.  Dynamics 365 Business Central uses a dimensional reporting structure.  In Dynamics 365 Business Central you define dimensions (think attribute or category) and you can tag those dimensions to any transaction in the system. You can also define default dimensions on things like customer, vendors, items, etc. so each time you transaction against that particular item the dimension is defaulted in.  This then allows you to do dimensional reporting and slice and dice your data in numerous ways.  Dynamics GP requires a 3rd party tool and some roundabout reporting efforts to tag transactions with a dimension or attribute.

Upgrade Path

A third indication you may want to move from Dynamics GP to Dynamics 365 Business Central is if the upgrade paths of Dynamics GP have become too cumbersome.  Dynamics GP is older software that does require regular upgrades.  At times those upgrades can be cumbersome and not provide great functionality improvements.   With Dynamics 365 Business Central upgrades are simply pushed through by Microsoft with some minor testing via a sandbox environment.

The Dynamics GP Data Migration Extension

This extension makes it easy to migrate customers, vendors, inventory items, general ledger accounts, open payables and open receivables transactions from Dynamics GP to Business Central. If your business uses Dynamics GP today, you can export the relevant records and then open an assisted setup guide to add the data to Business Central. The migration extension works for all supported versions of Microsoft Dynamics GP.
