For each physical product that you trade-in, you need to create an item card of type Inventory. Items that you offer to buyers but do not keep an inventory that you can record as catalogue items, which you can change to inventory items when required. You can change the quantity of an item in inventory by posting straight to the item ledger entries.

You can record inventory increases and decreases naturally when you post-purchase and sales documents, respectively. Transfers between locations change inventory quantities across your company’s warehouses. If you want to increase your overview of items and to help you find them, you can categorize all items and give them attributes to search and sort by. 

The physical handling of items is called as warehouse activities. Planning for items to fulfil demand is covered as part of supply planning functionality.
