Do not try to type in 7/11/2016 because it may mean July 11th or November 7th.
This is more a problem in Canada because when you buy a new computer the choice of Canada vs US determines if it is M/d/yyyy which is standard in business in Ontario and the US vs d/M/yyyy which is the official Canadian standard for date time and the date format that you would see in Quebec.
These settings called Region and Language in windows determine how the dates are displayed. How you type in them in is the tip of the day
